BAYERN BACK OUT OF SANCHEZ DEAL

German champs Bayern Munich have reportedly backed out of the deal for Arsenal playmaker Alexis Sanchez due to spiralling costs involved.

The Chilean would have been a great addition to the ranks at the Allianz Arena but his wages and transfer costs, especially in the face of serious competition for the player, has deterred the Bundesliga side.

Sanchez has barely a year on his deal with the Gunners. He seems reluctant to continue at the Emirates. At the moment, Manchester City are leading the race for his signature. Pep Guardiola is keen on the former Barcelona forward. The Spaniard employed him at the Nou Camp and remains in awe of the talented player that he wants to bring him to the Etihad.

Arsene Wenger had vowed to retain Sanchez or sell him abroad to avoid helping the competition. However, there are rumours that a swap deal is in the pipeline, Sanchez for Sergio Aguero. For now, nothing is concrete. Continue reading “BAYERN BACK OUT OF SANCHEZ DEAL”

SUMMER TRANSFER RUMOUR: ARSENAL TO SWOOP CARRICK

There is news in the rumour mill that Arsenal could make a move for Man United legend Michael Carrick during the summer transfer window.

The Sun claims that the North London outfit could give Carrick more playing chances than the player is getting at Old Trafford as he falls in the pecking order of United coach Jose Mourinho.

Carrick’s contract is set to expire at the end of the summer. With United not going as expected, Mourinho would be forced to make changes during the summer that might not favour Carrick. This is likely one of the reasons why reports link the player with a move away from Old Trafford.

With Mourino saying: “Look, let’s be honest, I see many positive things in Carrick but I cannot go to his identity cards and delete five years. He is not 35, he is not 30,” it seems Carrick does not have much to hope for at the Theatre of Dreams. Continue reading “SUMMER TRANSFER RUMOUR: ARSENAL TO SWOOP CARRICK”

WENGER DEFENDS GUARDIOLA

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has raised an opposing voice against those of critics bashing Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola after his side’s disgraceful performance at the King Power Stadium against defending champions Leicester City.

The Blue Mancunians conceded 3 goals in the opening 20 minutes and would go on to finish the game at a 4-2 deficit with Aleksandar Kolarov’s and Nolito’s late consolation goals serving as nothing more than papering over a shameful night.

The Spaniard, aside being mocked as majority of EPL fans quietly lurk behind his shadows waiting for him to fail his Abu-Dhabi masters so the drums of the English league’s superiority to others could be rolled out, was specifically singled out for saying that he was not “a coach for the tackles.”

For Wenger though the criticisms shelled out on top the former Bayern Munich coach’s head is “unfair.”

“Pep Guardiola, like myself, we are for offensive football. And when you don’t win, people question that. And that’s as simple as that. I believe that he doesn’t forbid his players to tackle,” said the 67-year-old.

Claudio Ranieri’s men increased doubts surrounding the likelihood of Pep Guardiola delivering to the Etihad faithful what both Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini failed to during their reign and most especially the trophy that’s time and again proved to be out of their reach –the UEFA Champion League title. Arsenal To Reward Ramsey

Arsenal has announced to reward their Welsh star Aaron Ramsey with a whopping 1, 00,000 pounds-a-week deal. Post the deal, Ramsey would come up as the 2nd highest paid player of the elite club behind Ozil (Mesut) and this only echoes the dapper Welsh’s growing significance in Wenger’s squad.

It’s certainly a big deal for the young 23-year-old player since he has been able to achieve the heightened status within less than eighteen months of his previous contract.

Albeit Ramsey had to miss out on the games for last couple of months given serious thigh injuries yet presently he is just back to training. The latest deal would simply double up his salary.

Along with Ramsey Santi Carzola has been also offered a high paying long-term contract with Arsenal. Wenger’s club has reported to reward Santi with a 80,000 pounds-a-week deal. The Spanish international, who was signed with 15 million pounds in 2012, has proved to be one of the most stalwart picks by Wenger.

Besides, Arsenal has also received support from two of its most loved players, Per Mertesacker & Thomas Rosicky. Both the German & Czech soccer stars have pledged futures to Wenger’s squad with improved contract extensions. While Mertesacker’s & Risicky’s contract formalities have been finalized, Arsenal is soon to seal the fresh escalated deals with Ramsey & Carzola are to be made official soon. Both the young players have readily agreed to the new deals from Arsenal.

However, Wenger is about to lose Bacary Sagna as the French star declined to come in terms with a new proposed contract from the club. Sagna would be out of Arsenal by the completion of the present season. As per the speculations, he is most likely to sign up with Inter Milan this summer.

ARSENAL STAY TOP

Arsenal managed to stay top of the table after a comfortable 2-0 win over Premier league strugglers Crystal Palace on Saturday. The real test for the club will be coming in the next few weeks because they will be facing the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Borussia Dortmund in successive matches. Arsene Wenger has said that this run will probably determine the rest of the season for his club. Even though Arsenal have managed to stay top of the table, there has been criticism that they have not faced any of the real title challengers up until now.

This criticism will be put to bed when they take on Chelsea in the League cup, although Chelsea manager José Mourinho has said that he will field a weakened team for this encounter. In some of the big matches that Arsenal have played, they have come second best. This was most recently in the Champions league match against Borussia Dortmund when they lost 2-1 at home to the German club. On the positive side, they have managed to win matches against Napoli and Tottenham earlier in the season.

Wenger has said that his side cannot do much other than hope to win these matches. They do not come into the matches on a good run of form.

“It is people who do not believe that we have a chance, but the only thing we can do is win our games. The only thing which is important is every win makes you a bit stronger and strengthens the belief. We have difficult games coming up, and that will be a good test, but I am confident. Crystal Palace put a shift in, they were determined to fight very hard, we needed to be patient and we were,” said Wenger after the Crystal Palace win.
